Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Halifax and HRM

Move-out cleaning works best after the last box and piece of furniture has left. An empty home gives the cleaner access to floors, cupboards, closets and the surfaces that were blocked during the move.

• Remove belongings, food, garbage and packing material.
• Empty cabinets, drawers, closets and vanities.
• Empty and defrost the fridge and freezer when their interiors are being cleaned.
• Make sure water and power remain on for the cleaning appointment.
• Leave clear entry, parking, fob, elevator or lockbox instructions.

• Clean the oven interior, racks and door glass.
• Wipe the emptied fridge and freezer interior, shelves and drawers.
• Clean inside emptied cabinets and drawers.
• Degrease the range hood, stovetop and backsplash.
• Clean the sink, taps, counters, appliance exteriors and accessible edges.
• Finish with the floor, including accessible edges and corners.

• Descale the shower, tub, glass and taps; clean the sink, counter, mirror and toilet.
• Wipe inside emptied bathroom vanities, drawers and medicine cabinets.
• Clean inside emptied closets, shelves and rails.
• Wipe baseboards, trim, doors, frames, handles and reachable marks.
• Dust reachable light fixtures, ceiling fans, window sills and tracks.
• Vacuum and mop floors last so they stay clean for the walkthrough.

Schedule after movers finish and before the final walkthrough or key return. If your building needs an elevator booking or only allows moves during certain hours, include that timing in your access notes.
